Roberto Granieri

My primary field of research is Ancient Philosophy, especially in the 4th and 3rd centuries BCE (Plato, Old Academy, Aristotle, Early Hellenistic Philosophy), with a specific focus on metaphysical and ontological themes. More in detail, I am particularly interested in the doctrine of categories and its history throughout the Ancient tradition. This also led me to pursue the in-depth study of the commentary tradition from the 1st century BCE up to Late Neoplatonism. I have also side interests in Medieval and Early Modern Philosophy, as well as in Greek and Roman literary culture. Before coming to Toronto I earned a BA and a MA in Philosophy at the Sapienza University of Rome, where I was also member of the honours program of the Sapienza School for Advanced Studies (SSAS).
