Dr. Johanna Thoma wins Governor General’s Gold Medal

The Department of Philosophy is pleased to congratulate Dr. Johanna Thoma on being awarded the 2017 Governor General’s Gold Medal for academic excellence at the graduate level.

Johanna Thoma was presented with the Governor General’s Gold Medal in a ceremony at the Faculty Club on May 25, 2017.

In attendance were Dr. Thoma’s father, Alexander, and members of the department and her committee (pictured, from left to right):  Martin Pickavé (Chair), Sergio Tenenbaum (supervisor), Mark Kingwell (Director of Graduate Studies), Johanna Thoma, Jennifer Nagel (faculty member), and Julia Nefsky (committee member).

Thoma is now assistant professor in the Department of Philosophy, Logic, and Scientific Method at the London School of Economics. Her research interests include practical rationality, decision and game theory, philosophy of economics, and moral philosophy.
