It is a pleasure to announce that Manish Oza is the winner of the 2015 Martha Lile Love Essay Award.  Reviewing all nominated essays anonymously, our prize committee judged his paper “Hegel and Formal Idealism” to be the best in a strong field of nominees.  Manish is a Qualifying Year student in our JD/PhD program.

Honorable Mention goes to Frank Hong, for his paper “Hanks and the Paderewski Puzzle”.  Frank was a Toronto MA student in 2014-15 and is now a PhD student at the University of Southern California.

This award was founded 36 years ago to honour the memory of a Toronto graduate student, Martha Lile Love, who had herself won an essay prize at Smith College, where she did her undergraduate degree in philosophy. Past winners of the Martha Lile Love Essay Award include Dennis Klimchuk, Jane Friedman, Achille Varzi and Evan Thompson.

Congratulations to Manish Oza and Frank Hong!
