In this section, you’ll find job postings for all academic employment in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto. This includes all work for Teaching Assistants (TAs), course instructors, as well as Faculty and Lecturer positions. All forms necessary for submission of an application for academic employment are also available here.

If you are looking for information on non-academic employment at the University of Toronto, please visit the Careers at U of T website.

If you are looking for information on the Socrates Project (undergraduate teaching assistantships), please visit the St. George Undergraduate section of this website.

There are three categories of academic employees in our department. The first two are represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees. They are divided into two bargaining units:

  • CUPE 3902 Unit 1
  • CUPE 3902 Unit 3

The third group is represented by the University of Toronto Faculty Association (UTFA).

Each employee belongs to only one category, depending upon their status at the university.

CUPE 3902 Unit 1
This group includes graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and undergraduates. Job opportunities include TA work (grader or tutorial lead) and course instruction.

CUPE 3902 Unit 3
This group encompasses those who are otherwise “outside” the university, i.e. not studying at the university. Job opportunities consist primarily of course instruction (these roles are known as SIs, Sessional Instructors), but there is also sometimes TA work (grader or tutorial leader). The latter positions are known as SIA (Sessional Instructional Assistants).

UTFA
The University of Toronto Faculty Association is not a union. Employees hired under this rubric include Faculty members, Lecturers (full and part-time), as well as CLTAs (Contractually Limited Term Appointments).
